That definition covers the basics, but after years of watching these machines get used in the field, I can tell you the real measure of portability is this: does the machine actually make it easier to get the job done, or does it just weigh less? Maintenance

 

 

Nozzles and electrodes – The heart of the torch. On a 63A cutting 10mm steel, you'll get 500–700 starts per set. On a 200A cutting 32mm, it drops to 300–400. Always keep a full set of spares-a dead nozzle kills production dead.

Swirl rings – These direct the gas flow. They get clogged with dust and need cleaning every few weeks. If the arc starts to spiral or drift, clean the swirl ring first.

Shield cups – They take the brunt of the spatter. Replace when you see cracks or excessive pitting.

Daily routine – Drain the air line water trap. Clean the torch tip. Inspect the electrode for pitting-if you see a crater deeper than 1mm, swap it.

Monthly routine – Open the side panel and blow out the fan intake with low-pressure air. The soft-switch technology keeps heat down, but dust still accumulates.

Case 

They cut circular ductwork and rectangular spools on high-rise construction sites. Previously, they used a handheld electric shear-slow and limited to thin gauge. With the 63A, they can cut 6mm steel supports for rooftop units and 3mm aluminum flashings with one tool. The non-HF ignition is a bonus-they often work near building control systems, and the plasma doesn't trip any alarms.
