What Is a Metal Tube Cutting Machine?

Metal tube cutting equipment relies on laser, plasma or mechanical cutting tools to process metal pipes, tubular materials and various structural profiles. Different from planar sheet cutting processes, tube cutting needs to rotate or position the workpiece synchronously as the cutting head travels longitudinally along the material to complete angled cutting work.

In actual factory processing, integrated tube cutting equipment can finish the whole processing flow automatically, covering the manual steps of measurement, scribing, sawing, drilling and burr removal. The equipment only needs one worker to complete parameter setting and start the processing program. Carbon steel processing is the easiest to handle. With the assistance of oxygen for auxiliary cutting, the cutting speed can be accelerated by the exothermic reaction. The focus of processing is not on the power size, but on controlling the heat affected zone: If the power is too high, the cut edge will oxidize and change color; if the power is insufficient, it is difficult to cut through thick-walled pipe materials. For thin-walled parts, it is recommended to gradually adjust the power from a low level to a stable parameter.
Stainless steel has a high reflectivity, requiring higher power density for cutting. Using nitrogen can achieve an oxidation-free cut surface, suitable for workpieces with strict anti-corrosion requirements such as maritime and food equipment. Field practical operation has proved that moderately increasing the air pressure for slag removal will result in better surface finish.
Aluminum has strong heat conduction and reflection properties, and heat is easily diffused. Without beam optimization and real-time power adjustment, the cut surface quality will be unstable, and the reflected light may damage the lens.
Copper and brass have the highest reflectivity coefficient, and they are prone to back reflection light damage the cutting head. Processing must be equipped with a dedicated cutting head with back reflection monitoring and protection.
