What Is a CNC Single Platform Fiber Laser Cutting Machine?

A CNC single platform fiber laser cutting machine is an automated system featuring a fixed work surface. A CNC controller interprets programmed tool paths, servo drives manage gantry movement, and the laser source directs power via a fiber optic cable to the cutting head. The focused beam melts the material, while assist gas clears away the molten metal. Essentially, it's one operator, one table, and one cycle.

While the machine executes the program, the operator manages part movement between different stages. In such settings, simplicity is key, and less complex equipment often proves more effective.
What Does the CNC Controller Actually Do?
The CNC directs the entire operation. It interprets the CAD file, generates tool paths, and manages the servo drives that move the gantry on the X and Y axes, while the Z axis adjusts the cutting head's height. The system constantly tracks position, speed, and acceleration. It also connects to the laser source and the assist gas system, acting as the main coordination hub for the cutting process.
The key advantage of CNC control is its reliability. When a program is proven for a particular part and material, it can be reproduced with identical outcomes. The machine doesn't fatigue, mismeasure, or change its approach from one piece to the next.
The time required
The entire process from installation to production takes about 3 to 5 business days.
1. Mechanical setup: Installing, leveling, and securing the machine will take roughly one day.
2. Utility connections: Connecting the three-phase power, auxiliary gas line, and cooling unit will also take about one day.
3. Testing and fine-tuning: Running trial cuts, assessing edge quality, and adjusting settings for each material and thickness will require two to three days.

Case

Common Problem
What does the CNC control on this machine?
The CNC controls the motion of the gantry and cutting head, and coordinates the laser source and assist gas. It reads the CAD file and executes the cut path automatically. Everything happens through the controller.
Why does the frame need stress relief?
Welding introduces residual stress into the steel. Over time, that stress slowly releases and the frame warps. Stress relief heats the frame to about 600°C, holds it there, then cools it slowly over 12 hours. This removes the stress. We do it on every bed.
What is the warranty on the machine?
One year on the complete machine, two years on the laser generator.
What is the most common problem users encounter?
Assist gas quality. Wet or contaminated gas damages optics and affects cut quality. A refrigerated air dryer and proper filtration are essential. Many problems trace back to gas, not the machine.
