What This Machine Actually Is

A Lightweight CNC Cutting Machine is a portable system you can move by hand. It's not something you tow or crane; instead, two people can lift and carry it to set up wherever you need to cut steel. It operates on standard 220V power and handles both plasma and flame cutting in a single unit.

The design features guide rails made from aviation aluminum profile, which are lighter than steel but still rigid enough to maintain accuracy. The box structure design provides strength without adding unnecessary weight.

Our building and testing process involves several key steps

Upon receiving steel, we confirm its dimensions and material grade.

Frame welding is done in jigs to guarantee alignment, featuring lightweight yet sturdy aviation aluminum profile guide rails.

Every welded frame undergoes stress-relieving heat treatment. This is vital to prevent future bed shifting from residual stresses, which would lead to inconsistent cuts. We never skip this step.

Critical surfaces and guide rail beds are then machined to precise tolerances.

Assembly involves installing the mechanical, electrical, and control systems, as well as mounting both torches.

Before shipping, each machine is rigorously tested. Motion systems are run through their entire range, plasma is fired at rated power, and flame tests are conducted. We cut actual steel plates of differing thicknesses, inspecting edge quality and verifying dimensions. Any machine that doesn't meet our standards is not shipped.

Finally, machines are disassembled into modules, crated, and documented for shipping.

Installation and site preparation of the Lightweight CNC Cutting Machine

1. Site Preparation: Ensure the area is ready. The ground or floor needs to be level – concrete isn't required, just level. You'll need a 220V power source. For the plasma cutter, compressed air is necessary, and it must be clean and dry. A gas supply for the flame cutting (oxygen and fuel gas) is also needed. Be aware that moisture in the air lines can quickly damage plasma consumables.

2. Assembly: Bolt the track sections together to reach your desired cutting length. The gantry then mounts onto these rails, followed by the installation of the torches and height controller. With remote assistance, this typically takes about half a day.

3. Electrical and Gas Connections: Connect the power, plasma source, and air supply. Then, hook up the oxygen and fuel gas lines. Once connected, power on the system, have the axes home themselves, and confirm all motion is working correctly.

4. Software Setup: Install StarCAM on your computer. You can import your CAD files or utilize the included graphic library, which features 54 common patterns; simply input your dimensions. Transfer files via USB. Next, adjust the cutting parameters for both plasma and flame.

5. Test Cuts: Perform test cuts on scrap material. This is where you'll adjust your parameters and fine-tune the height controller.

Plan for approximately one full day from the machine's arrival to its first production cut, provided your site is fully prepared beforehand.

Daily checks for plasma consumables: electrodes, nozzles, and swirl rings. Replace them when cut quality declines, and keep a stock of spares.

Before each job, confirm the THC is functioning correctly.

Drain the air supply daily. Moisture is a major cause of issues. Do this every morning.

Inspect gas lines for leaks to prevent safety hazards and wasted resources.

Clean and lubricate guide rails weekly, especially aviation aluminum ones that require frequent attention.

Log your arc-on time. Replace components when visual cut quality deteriorates.

FAQ
01.

Can one person set this up alone?

Technically yes, but it's easier with two. The gantry sections are designed to be manageable, but lifting and aligning them solo takes more time.

02.

How do I store Lightweight CNC Cutting Machine when it's not in use?

Keep it in a dry place. The electronics don't like moisture. The guide rails should be cleaned and lightly oiled before storage – rust on the rails ruins accuracy. We've seen machines stored outdoors under tarps – doesn't work. Moisture gets in, electronics corrode, rails rust. Keep it inside.

03.

What's the lifespan of the guide rails?

With regular cleaning and lubrication, the aviation aluminum rails last years. The wear parts are the bearing blocks, not the rails themselves. Clean them weekly – metal dust acts like sandpaper on the bearings.

04.

Can I cut multiple layers of steel stacked together?

No. Plasma cuts one layer at a time. Stacking sheets creates inconsistent arc behavior and poor cut quality. The heat also transfers between layers, causing warping and fusion. Cut one sheet at a time. It's faster in the long run.
