Hebei Juliang Technology Co., Ltd. is one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of gantry-type plasma cutting machine in China. Please feel free to buy CE approved machinery made in China here from our factory. All customized machines are with high quality and competitive price.
I've watched fabricators struggle with plasma cutting for years. Some shops still use handheld torches on 25mm plate-bent over, breathing fumes, trying to guide a straight line. Others use small cantilever machines that deflect under the weight of the torch, producing edges that need grinding before welding.
A gantry-type plasma cutting machine solves that problem by doing one thing well: it holds the torch rigidly above the plate and moves it precisely. The gantry-a bridge spanning the workpiece-travels along rails while the torch moves across it. Both ends driven simultaneously. No deflection. No taper. Just straight cuts, part after part.

Plasma vs. Oxy-fuel: Two Processes, One Machine
The machine supports both.
Plasma uses an electrical arc to ionize gas. It handles carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and copper. It's 3 to 5 times faster than oxy-fuel on thin to medium plate.
Oxy-fuel uses a chemical reaction-oxygen oxidizing heated steel. It's limited to carbon steel but handles thicknesses plasma can't touch: up to 300mm. Slower on thin material, but more cost-effective on thick sections.
The practical rule: plasma for material up to about 50mm; oxy-fuel beyond that.
What Operators Don't Tell You
I've spent time on shop floors watching operators work. There are things they notice that don't show up in spec sheets.
The torch height control is the single most important feature for cut quality. On uneven plate, a fixed-height torch produces inconsistent cuts. Operators manually adjust the height on cantilever machines-and they're often wrong. ATHC with arc voltage feedback maintains consistent standoff distance. It's not optional for production work.
The work lead placement matters. I've seen operators attach the ground clamp to painted surfaces or rusted areas. The arc becomes erratic. Cut quality suffers. The operator blames the consumables. The real problem is the ground connection. Attach it to clean, bare metal near the cut zone-within 300mm of the cut.
The preheat time on oxy-fuel is a hidden cost. On 50mm plate, the preheat takes 15-20 seconds before the cut starts. On a job with 100 cuts, that's 25-33 minutes of non-cutting time. Plasma has no preheat time-the arc starts and the cut begins immediately.
FAQ
Check three things: torch height (ATHC should maintain consistent standoff), gas pressure (drops of 10% affect cut quality), and ground connection (the ground clamp must be on clean, bare metal near the cut zone). Also check consumable condition-worn electrodes or damaged nozzles produce inconsistent cuts.
Check consumables at the start of each shift. Replace the electrode when the hafnium insert shows a crater deeper than 1mm. Replace the nozzle when the orifice is enlarged or out of round. The swirl ring should be replaced every 5-10 electrode changes. Contaminated air shortens life significantly-a refrigerated air dryer is essential.
Yes, but it requires attention. Thin sheet (under 6mm) heats up quickly and warps. Use a water table to reduce heat distortion. Use a lower amperage and faster cutting speed. Some machines have a "thin sheet" mode that adjusts the torch height and gas pressure automatically. If you primarily cut thin sheet, a dedicated sheet cutter with a smaller gantry may be more practical.
Most crashes happen when the torch height control fails or the material warps unpredictably. Check the THC sensor-if it's dirty or misaligned, it reads wrong. Also check the Z-axis drive-if it's sticking or slow, the torch can't rise fast enough. Some operators turn off THC on severely warped plate and manually adjust height.
