This water cooling laser welding machine uses a closed-loop system to keep temperatures steady while it works. It fires a 1080nm wavelength laser beam through a fiber optic cable to a hand-held or robotic welding head. The beam can be focused to a spot between 0.2mm and 2.0mm, creating enough power density to melt metal where the pieces join. Because it stays cool, it can run at high power continuously (up to 100% duty cycle) and create welds with the same depth every time, even during long jobs. You can get these machines with power outputs from 1000W to 3000W, perfect for everything from thin sheet metal to thick plate fabrication.

Thermal Management Performance

The cooling system must maintain thermal stability for consistent laser output. The relationship between water temperature and beam characteristics is quantifiable.
Ambient Temperature Range: The chiller can maintain set point temperature with ambient temperatures up to 40°C. Above 40°C, cooling capacity decreases. The chiller may run continuously without reaching set point. Operation above 45°C ambient is not recommended.
Warm-up Time: From cold start, the system requires 5–10 minutes to stabilize water temperature. Production welding should not begin until the temperature display indicates stable set point.
Heat Dissipation: The chiller rejects heat to the ambient air through the condenser. The chiller must be installed in a location with adequate airflow. Minimum clearance: 300mm on all sides. The chiller should not be installed in a confined space without ventilation.
Failure Modes and Diagnostics
High Temperature Alarm: Laser source temperature exceeds threshold. Symptoms: power derating, source shutdown. Causes: chiller failure, water flow blockage, low water level. Diagnostic: check chiller display for error code, verify water level, check flow indicator.
Low Water Flow Alarm: Flow rate below minimum threshold. Symptoms: reduced cooling, gradual power derating. Causes: clogged filter, pump failure, kinked hose. Diagnostic: check filter pressure drop, inspect pump operation, verify hose routing.
Water Leak Alarm: Water detected in drip tray. Symptoms: water accumulation, corrosion risk. Causes: loose fitting, cracked hose, failed seal. Diagnostic: visual inspection of all connections, pressure test the circuit.
Coolant Conductivity High: Water quality degraded. Symptoms: scale buildup, reduced cooling efficiency. Causes: depleted deionization cartridge, contamination. Diagnostic: conductivity meter reading >5μS/cm. Replace cartridge and partially replace water.

Maintenance Schedule
Daily: Check water level in reservoir (top up if low). Verify chiller set point temperature. Inspect protective window. Check for water leaks.
Weekly: Clean chiller air intake grills with compressed air. Inspect hoses for kinks or leaks. Verify water flow indicator shows adequate flow.
Monthly: Check coolant quality (conductivity <5μS/cm). Replace water filter if pressure drop exceeds specification. Verify temperature stability across shift.
Quarterly: Replace coolant (or per manufacturer schedule). Inspect all hose connections for tightness. Clean chiller condenser with compressed air. Verify pump operation.
Annually: Qualified technician to inspect and service refrigeration system. Check refrigerant pressure. Inspect compressor and fan motor bearings.
No. The laser source and optics generate heat during operation. Operating without water cooling will cause temperature rise, triggering thermal shutdown or damaging the laser source. The machine is interlocked to prevent operation without proper water flow.
The laser source temperature will rise. The machine has a thermal sensor that triggers a shutdown when temperature exceeds the threshold. The alarm will display on the control panel. Do not restart until the chiller fault is resolved and temperature returns to normal.
Relocation is possible but requires draining the cooling system and disconnecting all connections. The machine weight (250–400kg) requires a pallet jack or forklift. Refrigerant in the chiller must be handled by qualified personnel during relocation.
Installation takes 2–3 days including chiller placement, water filling, electrical connection, optical alignment, and operator training. The chiller requires a separate power supply and adequate ventilation. Foundation requirements include level concrete floor and clearance around the chiller.
