A Different Way to Cut Tube

This machine does something most tube cutters don't. The laser head fires from the side, not from above. The beam travels horizontally into the tube rather than vertically down. That change in orientation affects the cutting process in ways that matter. The tube sits lower to the ground, so it spins with less wobble. Less wobble means the cut edge stays cleaner. The side layout also lets the front chuck move back, putting the cutting head closer to the tube end. The stub you'd normally throw away gets shorter. Run thousands of tubes and those saved inches add up.

The frame uses thicker steel plate than you'll find on lighter-duty machines. Weight matters here because mass absorbs vibration. A lighter frame would transfer more movement to the cutting head, showing up as edge quality variation. We use structural plate that's cut, formed, and welded with controlled procedures.

After welding, the frame goes into a furnace for stress relief. The temperature rises slowly, holds, then falls gradually. This cycle removes the internal stresses that welding puts into the metal. If you skip stress relief, the frame moves during machining. Not much-but enough to affect the optical path over time.

The machined surfaces get a coating that prevents rust and pitting. Pitting on precision surfaces lets components shift. Shifted components mean lost accuracy. We coat those surfaces for the same reason you paint exposed steel-to prevent corrosion.

Bed Layout

The bed sits lower than typical designs. A tube near the floor is more stable than one elevated.

Chuck Assembly

The chucks clamp and center the tube automatically. Consistent clamping prevents slippage.

Support Arm

A servo-driven support follows the tube during rotation, reducing sag on longer pieces.

End Work

The front chuck retracts, allowing the cutting head to work closer to the tube end.

1. What does side-mounted mean in practice?
The laser head fires horizontally from the side of the tube rather than vertically from above. The tube sits lower and rotates with less vibration. The cutting head also reaches closer to the tube end, reducing waste.

2. How fast does it cut on average?
Speed depends on material and thickness. For 3 mm carbon steel with oxygen, about 6-8 meters per minute. For 5 mm stainless with nitrogen, about 4.5-5 meters per minute. Factory test data under controlled conditions.

3. Can the machine cut oval or shaped tubes?
Standard chucks handle round, square, and rectangular sections. For oval or custom profiles, we offer specialized jaw inserts. Lead time is 2-3 weeks after receiving sample or drawing.

4. What happens to edge quality over time?
Edge quality stays consistent as long as the protective window is clean and gas purity is maintained. The machine monitors its own focus position and will alarm if drift occurs.

5. Is training included with the purchase?
Remote training is included. We provide video tutorials and live video support during initial operation. On-site training is available at additional cost.

6. What about warranty?
One year on the complete machine. Two years on the fiber laser source. Consumables are excluded. Damage from improper operation or electrical issues is not covered.

7. How much space does the machine need?
Allow about 11 meters in length and 3.5 meters in width including clearance. We provide a layout drawing for your workshop.
