What a Plate Laser Cutter Actually Does
A plate fiber laser cutting machine is a CNC system built for processing thicker metal plates - typically 10mm to 60mm and beyond - that standard sheet metal lasers struggle with. The machine uses a high-power fiber laser source, typically 6kW to 20kW or more, delivered through a fiber optic cable to a cutting head that moves along a gantry. The CNC coordinates motion, power, gas, and focus automatically.


What Makes Plate Cutting Different
The physics changes when you move from sheet to plate. On thin material, the beam goes through quickly. The heat-affected zone is small. The material stays flat. Yes. Stainless requires nitrogen assist gas to prevent edge oxidation. Aluminum requires faster cutting speed - about 30-50% faster than steel of the same thickness - to prevent heat buildup.
