When a 3-Meter Bed Won't Do

Most laser cutters are designed for sheets up to 3,000×1,500mm, which works for many projects. However, if you regularly work with plates measuring 6, 8, or even 12 meters in length, this standard size becomes a constraint.

A long bed fiber laser cutting machine is the answer. Its bed is custom-built to accommodate your plate sizes – whether they're 6, 8, 12 meters, or more. This allows the machine to cut the whole plate in a single go, eliminating the need for repositioning, alignment adjustments, and subsequent rework.

The Foundation Nobody Talks About

Most shops focus on the machine. They forget about the foundation. This is the most common installation mistake I see.

A long bed machine requires a steel-reinforced concrete slab that is level within tolerance. Concrete thickness of at least 150mm is required. The slab must be cured for at least 28 days before installation. Load-bearing capacity must be adequate - some configurations require 500kg/m² or more.

If the foundation is inadequate, the machine will never cut accurately. The frame settles unevenly. The rails shift. The gantry binds. No amount of calibration can fix a bad foundation.

Some machines use a segmented linear rail bed with independent floor-mounted supports. This separates the worktable from the bed frame, minimizing heat distortion during processing and protecting the machine's integrity during heavy plate loading. It also handles unlimited plate weights because heavy plates are loaded directly onto a static bed

Yes. The machine cuts any plate that fits on the bed. Smaller plates are processed the same way as on a standard machine. You don't need to fill the full bed length.

02.How does the machine stay accurate over 20 meters?

The bed is built in modular sections. Each section is independent and stress-relieved-. Thermal expansion doesn't transfer between sections. The gantry uses bilateral drive to stay square.

03.What's the biggest installation challenge?

Foundation preparation. The machine requires a reinforced concrete slab with adequate load-bearing capacity. The longer the bed, the more critical the foundation becomes. A deviation of even a few millimeters at the foundation level translates to cut errors.
