But in a fabrication shop, it means something simpler: you design a part on your computer, load the file, and the machine cuts it out of a steel plate. No templates. No chalk lines. No cutting by hand and hoping it fits.

These machines typically support both plasma and flame cutting in one unit. Plasma handles thinner and medium-thickness steel quickly. Flame cutting takes over when you need to cut thick plate – up to 150mm or more. You switch between the two depending on the job.

Plasma Consumables: Inspect electrodes, nozzles, and swirl rings each day. Replace them when you notice a decline in cut quality. It's also wise to keep extras on hand.

THC: Confirm its proper function before starting any job, ensuring it's operational before production begins.

Air Supply: Remember to drain the air system daily, as moisture is the primary cause of equipment failure. Do this every morning.

Gas Lines: Check these for any leaks. Escaping gas not only poses a safety risk but also leads to unnecessary expense.

Guide Rails: Clean and lubricate these weekly. 

Log your arc-on time. Replace consumables when you observe a visible change in cut quality.

Understanding Flame Cutting

 

Flame cutting, or oxy-fuel cutting, involves heating steel with a gas torch (using oxygen and a fuel like acetylene or propane) until it ignites. A jet of oxygen then oxidizes the metal and blows it away.

This method is excellent for thick steel. Plasma cutting typically maxes out at 35–40mm, but flame cutting can readily manage thicknesses from 5mm up to 150mm and beyond. It's a slower process, moving at about 0.1–1 m/min, but it's the only practical solution for very thick metal plates.

Flame cutting operates solely on gas, needing no electricity for the actual cutting. It results in a clean, square cut on carbon steel, leaving a heat-affected zone that may need preparation prior to welding.

It's possible to equip the machine with both plasma and flame torches on the same gantry. This setup lets you utilize plasma for thinner sheets and flame for thicker plates – one machine, two distinct cutting capabilities.

Installation and Setup

Transfer your jobs to the machine using a USB drive.
Set your cutting parameters for both plasma and flame.

01.How long until I get it?

02.Can this CNC Sheet Cutting Machine handle stainless steel and aluminum?

Yes, with plasma. Stainless steel and aluminum are conductive, so plasma cuts them effectively. You'll need different gas settings for stainless than for mild steel. Flame cutting is limited to carbon steel; it cannot cut stainless or aluminum.

03.Do I need to be a CNC expert to run one?

No. The control system has a touchscreen HMI designed for shop floor operators. If you can use a smartphone, you can learn this interface in a day. The nesting software is more complex – you'll need someone who can use CAD and understands nesting basics – but that's a skill you can learn or hire for. Most shops have one person handle programming and everyone else handles operation.
