Q: Does air cooling mean I can weld forever without stopping?
A: No. And anyone who says yes is selling you magic beans. Air cooling works continuously, but like any cooling system, it has thermal limits. In a 25℃ shop, the Portable Air-Cooled Handheld Fiber Laser Welding Machine runs full duty cycle at 900W–1200W. At 1500W–2000W, we recommend resting the unit for 5–10 minutes after 20–25 minutes of continuous welding. Water cooling handles longer heavy-duty cycles. Air cooling handles 90% of shop work. Pick based on your actual daily weld time, not theoretical maximums.
Q: Can this really weld 0.5mm thin material without burning through?
A: Yes-and here's why. Low heat input is the whole point of fiber laser welding. On thin materials, you adjust two settings: lower power and faster travel speed. The weld happens so quickly that heat doesn't have time to spread. We've welded 0.4mm stainless foil on a test stand. Not that you'd do that daily. But the capability exists. Start with our recommended parameters (ask us for the table) and tune from there.
Q: What happens if the air intake filter gets clogged?
A: The machine's thermal protection triggers and stops lasing. This is a feature, not a failure. The fix: unplug the unit, remove the dust filter (front panel, two thumb screws), blow it out with compressed air from inside-out, reinstall. Takes 90 seconds. If you ignore filter cleaning for months, you'll trigger thermal shutdown more often. We provide a washable spare filter. Rotate them monthly. Your machine will outlive your patience.
