Air Cooled Laser Welder

For air-cooling, a built-in fan is used to force air convection for heat dissipation, resulting in a more streamlined structure. It eliminates the need for external water connections and coolant replacement steps, and completely avoids the problem of coolant freezing caused by low temperatures in winter. Since no large refrigeration units are required, the air-cooled models have advantages in terms of overall size, weight, and portability of the entire machine.

Why Air Cooling Instead of Water?

To put it simply, complexity leads to higher costs and extended timelines.

Water-cooled systems deliver robust performance, allowing for sustained high-output operations without overheating. However, achieving this performance involves considerable effort. A chiller unit is necessary, which consumes valuable floor space. Regular maintenance is also a must: this includes managing water quality, replacing filters, monitoring for scale, and ensuring the system is drained in freezing temperatures. We've observed instances where clients experienced production interruptions due to leaks affecting sensitive electronics or due to chiller pump malfunctions that resulted in mid-shift laser downtime.

In contrast, an air-cooled laser welder eliminates these complications. The cooling mechanism is integrated directly into the machine, utilizing heat sinks and fans. There's no requirement for an external chiller, water supply lines, or coolants. Setup is as simple as plugging it in and commencing welding.

What's the catch? Air cooling is less efficient at heat dissipation compared to water. Consequently, air-cooled systems are typically restricted to lower power ranges, generally up to approximately 1500W, and cannot maintain full capacity indefinitely. If your operations frequently involve welding substantial materials, a water-cooled system might remain your optimal solution. Nevertheless, for the majority of small to medium fabrication businesses, an air-cooled system proves more than adequate.

application function

Small fabrication shops

Because space can be limited, a chiller unit might be inconvenient. However, an air-cooled system is designed to be portable, often fitting on a cart, so you can easily move it around your workspace as needed.

Intermittent production

When the machine isn't running at its maximum capacity all the time, air cooling is perfectly capable of handling the heat.

Shops without water access

If your workspace lacks nearby plumbing, an air-cooled system is ideal as it only requires a power outlet.

Mobile welding

For on-site repairs or field work, hauling a chiller isn't practical. An air-cooled system is portable enough to bring to any job site.

Thin to medium sheet metal

If you're working with materials under 3mm thick, 1000W to 1500W is usually sufficient.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can an air cooled laser welder handle aluminum?

+

-

Yes, but aluminum is more reflective and conducts heat away faster than steel. You'll need to adjust parameters-higher peak power, shorter pulse duration, and sometimes a different focal position. We recommend testing on your specific material before production. For thin aluminum sheet (under 2mm), an air-cooled system works well.

How often do I need to clean the cooling system?

+

-

Check the air intakes and heat sink fins weekly for dust buildup. Blow them out with compressed air as needed-typically every two to four weeks depending on your shop environment. Dirty filters restrict airflow and reduce cooling efficiency.

Do I need a special power outlet for this machine?

+

-

A 1000W machine typically runs on standard 220V single-phase, similar to what you'd use for a large air compressor or welder. The 1500W version may require 380V three-phase. Check the specifications for your specific model.

Can I weld galvanized steel with this machine?

+

-

Yes, but zinc vapor from galvanized coatings can contaminate the protective lens more quickly. Use a higher shielding gas flow and check the lens more frequently. Good fume extraction is also recommended.

How long is the warranty period?

+

-

One-year warranty on the full machine, two years on the laser source. We provide 24/7 remote video support. If parts are needed, we ship them and guide your team through replacement remotely.
