What is this machine?

An Economical Gantry CNC Cutter uses a bridge-like gantry structure that extends across the workpiece's width. This gantry travels on rails, equipped with plasma and oxy-fuel torches to cut along the material's surface. The entire process, including motion, torch ignition, gas flow, and height adjustments, is automatically managed by a CNC controller.

This setup allows for both plasma and oxy-fuel cutting within the same machine. Plasma cutting is ideal for thin to moderately thick plates, cutting about 3 to 5 times faster than flame cutting. Flame cutting, while slower, is suited for thicker materials and is more economical. Switching between cutting types is seamless, as it doesn't require moving the workpiece, thereby eliminating downtime associated with equipment changes.

This machine is used in several industries

Structural steel fabrication:For parts like connection plates, gussets, stiffeners, beam copes, and end plates.
Shipbuilding:To process hull plates, bulkheads, and deck components. Shipyards often have huge plates that other machines can't manage.
Heavy equipment manufacturing:For building mining trucks, excavators, and bulldozers using thick steel plates for frames, buckets, booms, and wear plates.
Steel service centers:To cut plate for their customers. If you're in steel distribution, you need a machine capable of handling various plate sizes.
Bridge and infrastructure projects:For components in bridges, power transmission towers, and wind turbine foundations.
Pressure vessel manufacturing:To create tank components, pipe ends, and flanges.

Here's what typically wears out with plasma cutting

Electrodes and nozzles:These are your primary consumables. If you're cutting daily, you'll likely need to swap them out every 1-2 weeks. You'll know it's time when the arc starts to stray or the cut quality suffers.

Oxy-fuel tips:The heat means these need replacing now and then. If you're using them daily on thick metal, plan on changing them every few weeks.

Torch body:Give this a look now and then. Make sure connections are tight, cables aren't damaged, and the ceramic shield isn't worn.

Rails and bearings:Keep these clean and lubricated regularly. Lighter gantries, common on less heavy machines, can pick up debris more easily, so cleaning is key.

Ceramic rings:These are designed to break first during a torch collision with the plate, saving your cutting head. It's always a good idea to keep spares handy.

Every Economical Gantry CNC Cutter undergoes these checks

Bed Alignment: We guarantee the rails are perfectly level and straight.
Gantry Squareness: The dual-drive system is precisely calibrated to be square with the bed.
CNC Integration: The Fangling F2100B controller, height control, and drive system undergo joint testing to ensure flawless communication and synchronization.
Cut Quality Verification: We test cut samples of different material thicknesses, checking edge quality, squareness, and dross.
Burn-in: The machine operates continuously for over 8 hours to catch any potential early problems.

FAQ

1. Can I cut multiple parts at once from one sheet?

Yes, with the StarCAM nesting software. The software arranges parts on the sheet to minimize waste.

2. What's the proper way to store consumables?

Keep electrodes and nozzles in a clean, dry place - their original packaging works fine. Don't leave them exposed to shop dust. One customer kept their consumables in an open drawer and was replacing them twice as often as another shop with the same machine. Dust contaminates the electrode and nozzle, shortening their life.

3. Does the Economical Gantry CNC Cutter need to be re-calibrated after moving it?

Yes, any relocation requires a full recalibration - leveling, alignment, and test cutting. Plan for about 2 days of setup time.

4. What happens if I run the machine without enough compressed air?

The torch won't fire properly and you'll burn through consumables fast. The plasma arc needs air flow to cool the nozzle and electrode. Without it, the electrode overheats and erodes within minutes. Always check your air pressure before starting.

5. Why does the machine stop mid-cut?

Usually one of three things: the control detected a torch height fault, the arc voltage dropped (gas pressure or ground issue), or the limit switch was triggered. Check your gas pressure, check your ground, and make sure the gantry isn't hitting anything. The F2100B control has power-off memory, so you can resume from where it stopped.
